17/8/13: Circuit Considerations Training #2

Great day for flying!

A fair crosswind blowing today coming from the North-West.

Flew 4 circuits today as crosswinds is adding another layer of challenges onto calm wind circuits so therefore requires some extra mental thought at the moment.  At this point, I doubt I could do over an hour of crosswind circuits and maintain reasonable landings  :-)

  • 1st circuit - 28R touch-and-go

  • 2nd circuit - Glide approach from late downwind 28R to threshold (simulate engine failure)

  • 3rd circuit - 28R go-around (an aircraft had accidentally partially crossed holding point B1 while I was on final so ATC instructed me to go-around - missed approach)

  • 4th circuit - Flapless approach 28R with full stop landing

Another enjoyable lesson and always learning new things.

Tuesday this week I sat and passed another theory exam - Human Factors.  So that leaves only one theory exam to do before RA-Aus Pilot Certificate stage... the Basic Aeronautical Knowledge (BAK) exam.

I'm off to the UK for 4 weeks with my wife for a holiday and to attend a wedding, so will be a few weeks until my next flight lesson.

Next lesson booked Sunday 15th September... its an early flight so winds should hopefully be calmer for some more circuit emergencies including take-off engine failure exercises.
